Dear Ninive,
Welcome to our June 2004 newsletter.
You Can Have Fun Going to Work
Ninive Badilescu
Ever thought about things you would rather do while at work? Ever tried to imagine what your ideal activity would be? Ever thought about those times when you had so much fun and fulfilment when doing something and the lack of those in your current job?

If you have you are not alone. You share the same thoughts and dreams with many other people. This is the good news. The bad news is that there are many other people out there who wouldn't want to be anywhere else when at work, people who enjoy what they are doing, never wish they were somewhere else, always with a smile on their face in the morning (or so it seems).

The Top 10 Tips Surviving Change
Cynthia Kozak
How we deal with the changes in life impacts how well we deal with life itself. Do we see change as an opportunity for growth, or do we desperately try to hang on to the status quo? Here are some tips to help you weather changes and smooth out the bumps in your life.

1. Expand your horizons.

Use the change to learn something. Now is the time to become computer literate, learn to take great pictures with the camera that's on the closet shelf, or brush up on your writing skills in a creative writing class. You'll learn something new and meet people who share a common interest with you.

How do I make sure my personal values are met by my work and career values?

Great question! Many of us omit taking a closer look at the relationship between our personal values and the work and career values we are looking for. However there is a very simple exercise that can help you a lot in getting a reliable answer.

Write a list of your ten most important personal values (family, honesty, compassion, learning, etc), in order of their importance. Now take another piece of paper and list what you see as the ten most important work and career values (accountability, professional growth, leadership, etc). Use the two to create a list of values that match or support each other (honest/accountability, learning/professional growth, etc).

This is the list of values that you should be important for your decision when looking for a new job, changing your career, progressing within the same company or just planning for the future.
